2021: The year of fashion-tech
This year, fashion entered the metaverse. With this in mind, Youth4Youth decided to hold a session at ESF South Island School to explore the links between technology and fashion design. We delved into the robots being used to mass-manufacture clothing, AI algorithms predicting style trends, social media helping set fashion trends and promoting fashion from different cultures as well as 3D printing and body scanning as technological innovations in the fashion industry.
Youth4Youth taught the students about CAD and 3D printing as an innovative direction for fashion designers and artists who are interested in creating unique geometric designs, as well as using body scanners to make clothes with the best possible fit. We also had a group discussion about the Aespa Virtual Members which are fashion representatives of the metaverse era. We ended this session with the students exploring Infinite Passerella, an infinite virtual fashion show created by Lusion, as well as Tailornova, an online fashion design software that helps you create unique designs, visualise your creations in 3D and obtain custom-fitted patterns.
